THE STUDIO has a rich history in central Iowa. It was originally built in 1954 by Ellen Belle Foster, a talented tap dance and ballet teacher who taught from 1930 through 1965. Well known in Indianola and central Iowa, she touched thousands of lives introducing them to dance and the stage. THE STUDIO currently serves as a location for the renowned Foster–Powell Dance Studio, with instructor Richard Powell continuing her legacy. Over the years, many other teachers in the arts and martial arts have called THE STUDIO home for their classes, as well.
Today the 30 X 60 ft. performing arts studio has been renovated, inside and out by current owner Julia Foster, enhancing and continuing the tradition of The Studio. It is ideally suited for classes in the arts, yoga, seminars, meetings dinners, parties, events and more!
THE STUDIO has 1100 square feet of column free working floor space, 35 feet of mirrors, and maple sprung wood floor that provides shock absorption essential to the performing arts. The Studio is acoustically designed to enhance the in-house music system that is CD and mp3/iPod compatible. Lighting includes natural as well as bright overhead lights, accent lights, and theatrical lighting. The air conditioned building has a 14 x 14 foot waiting area, a dressing room and rest room.
Local artist Lisa Huyette was commissioned to paint the custom, colorful art work that adorns the walls and provides The Studio with its signature look.
